ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCY Space for Art
Give yourself the time and space to create with support and visibility
Who we are
We are a group of women artists from around the world, settled in Sant Pere de Ribes, a small town near Barcelona, Spain.

Our purpose is to inspire our community and make art more accessible to those around us through our exhibitions, inspiring talks, and engaging activities.

We all work in different disciplines, having experience in painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, performance and theatre, and art therapy.

We are thrilled to open up our studio with our artist-in-residence programme to give space for other artists to thrive.

Nathalie Ribbans
Artist-in-Residency Summer 2024
"My time at Space for Art hasn’t been about creating something. It hasn’t been about a collection becoming real. It has been about un-creating. Unbecoming. Taking that yarn - as women have always done in circles; as my grandmother did so beautifully - and reweaving it. Deconstructing. Ripping apart what I have always done. Putting back together. Finding a new way. A new path."

"My experience as an artist in residence at Space For Art has been beyond what I could ever have imagined. Getting to know each artist is something I treasure. To be accepted by, challenged by, moved by, and respected by each artist has been a gift.

Having been self-taught, this was the experience I was longing for but didn’t know it. Working with other artists, hearing them talk about their individual processes and be able to have their input was invaluable.

I highly recommend working or collaborating with Space for Art and also partaking in their residence program and or workshops!"

"They say we are most influenced by the handful of folks we see the most often. If that’s the case then I’m happy to be able to spend most of my work hours around those much more creative than I. Once I arrive to the studio each day it’s been a breeze dropping into the creative zone. I’ve been much more efficient at actual client work and have been able to enjoy more moments of study, writing and creative deep thinking.
I knew working outside of the house was a good next step but I had no idea how positively impactful it was going to be. Had I known, I would have explored this much sooner!
Next time I feel a good idea brewing, I won’t brush it off. I won’t make a million excuses to wait…I’ll just go for it! "

"As my year as an artist-in-residence comes to a close, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible opportunity to be a part of Space for Art.

This past year has been transformative for both my art and my personal growth. The caring, free, and respectful environment you have cultivated allowed me to explore my creativity without hesitation. I felt supported and inspired by all the Space for Art artists which has been essential to my artistic journey.

Thank you for providing me with the space and encouragement to push my boundaries and develop my work.
To have meet such a positive, strong and caring group of women. "
